Marvel Rivals is a new free-to-play hero shooter. Created by NetEase Games and Marvel Marvel Rivals came out Dec. 5.. The game has been anticipated for a while and has been labeled as “the new Overwatch.” Marvel Rivals’ player base has already hit a size of 10 million players. 

Marvel Rivals gained popularity from the moment of its announcement. It is gaining a lot of popularity from the streamers who show it online. With its release, lots of players of many online games moved to play the new hyped-up game. The total feedback is positive and has a rating of 8/10 by IGN. Marvel Rivals gives players a reason to enjoy the game with its fast queue time and immediate access to all characters. The game is also free to play on Steam, Playstation and Xbox, being accessible to most people. People enjoy the game because Marvel Rivals gives people a reason to like it. 

The gameplay itself is a hero shooter. This is a subgenre of shooter games that emphasize heroes and special abilities. It consists of two teams with six players each. The teams go head to head in a battle using characters from a roster of 33 playable options. These options include characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Dr. Strange, Loki and more. These characters fall under different roles. The roles are vanguard, duelist and strategist. Each role serves a different purpose that helps support the team in its goal of victory. The goals of the vanguard are to make space and take damage for the team so players can take control of the battlefield. Duelists use the space made by the vanguard or take a different route and do damage and eliminate the opponents to help secure a point. The strategists’ goal is to support the team. That can be healing them or buffing them to do more damage; their goal is to make the jobs of the vanguard and duelist easier. Different maps also exist, with ones where teams fight to control multiple points or for the two teams to try and either defend or push a payload depending on whether they’re attacking or defending. Overall, it’s simple and complex, and battles depend on the player and their team.

Marvel Rivals takes the characters of Marvel and makes a simple six versus six hero shooter that is really popular due to the fun gameplay and the enjoyable quality of life stuff other games don’t give. The game only just came out, though, and there is plenty of stuff to look for in the future.
