Tips and Benefits of Spring Cleaning
How to tidy up your room this season
Love it or list it
Trends come and go, so your clothes should too; you don’t need to keep a skirt you got because your sixth grade best friend did too. You can donate at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County or a thrift shop. Another option if you need some cash, is to sell clothes at places such as Uptown Cheapskate, Plato’s Closet or online on Depop.
Get rid of old jewelry
Jewelry can easily make a dresser look very cluttered, so toss what you don’t wear anymore, but keep your everyday basics and a few bolder pieces. Try finding efficient ways to organize the jewelry you do wear, such as hanging it on the wall or a jewelry box; Pinterest always has good ideas.
Throw away your trash
Yes, this should go without saying, but it’s important to remember. It’s easy to become used to the pile of half-empty water bottles on the floor by your bed, so make sure you empty out the water into the sink or a potted plant and toss the bottle into the recycling bin.
Buy more expensive things
This sounds crazy, but hear me out. A good way to keep from becoming a clothing hoarder is to not buy a ton of things in the first place. The trick is to stop buying a ton of items just because they’re cheaper, and instead buy a few expensive things that will take up less space in your closet and most likely last longer.
Get a new candle
A fresh, calming scent such as fresh cut roses, lemon or ocean breeze can help get you into a summer mood and make you want to declutter your room. It also helps to get one new item as you get rid of so many older items.
Decrease your stress
One benefit of cleaning out your room is that it will help you be able to relax. Seeing less clutter will help your mind not feel overwhelmed by all the small things, and help focus on the bigger, more important tasks.
Stop your sniffles
Spring showers bring may flowers and miserable allergies. Cleaning off the dust, dirt and pet hair from surfaces in your room will help people with allergies and asthma. Make sure to wipe the dust off surfaces, including those fan blades up high and then vacuum or sweep the floor.
