SKI Plano hits slopes
Education foundation to hold annual fundraiser
The Plano ISD Education Foundation will host the 24th annual Supporting Kids in Plano (SKI Plano) fundraiser at the Plano Marriott Legacy Town Center Saturday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
SKI Plano is the largest fundraiser held by the Plano ISD Education Foundation (PISDEF), a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization separate from the district that works with local businesses to raise money for school programs not paid for by tax dollars. This includes grants, student scholarships, internship and externship programs and improvements within science and technology departments.
“The only way you have a vibrant business community is if you have a great quality of life and a good education system,” PISDEF Senior Executive Director Jamee Jolly said.
Jolly previously served as the President and CEO of the Plano Chamber of Commerce for nine years. As a businesswoman with connections in the entrepreneurial world, Jolly used years of experience to take the reins to organize a district-wide fundraiser.
“Working closely with the district, I learned a lot about where the needs are and how the business community can help connect and serve within the school district,” Jolly said. “When the opportunity came up, I was excited to put my expertise to use working with the district and with local businesses to help raise money.”
SKI Plano marks a departure from other formal banquets. This year’s theme is mountain attire— attendees are free to wear jeans, ski vests, toboggans and other winter wear to the fundraising events throughout the night.
“It’s everybody’s favorite gala because it does have a ski theme,” Jolly said. “You can really dress casually, which is not the typical dress for the type of event. It is definitely one of a kind.”
