East falls to Allen 58-23 in final regular season game

Plano East ended their regular season with a loss as they fell 58-23 to Allen on Nov. 6 at the Eagles stadium.

Plano East marched into the game with a two-game winning streak, but even that was not enough to halt the undefeated Allen.

“We had been doing really well this season,” senior Alexandra Jimmar said. “Beating Allen at the Eagles stadium seemed possible.”

The hosts opened the scoring through a one-yard running touchdown by junior QB Mitchell Jonke. Plano East was forced to punt on the ensuing drive, and Allen capitalized with sophomore Kirby Bennet running for 13 yards to extend the lead to 14-0.

Senior Cesar Sanchez broke the deadlock for Plano East halfway into the second quarter, kicking the ball 29 yards for a field goal.

Allen responded with Bennet’s second touchdown on a two-yard carry, launching them into a 21-3 lead.

East trimmed Allen’s lead to 21-9 when senior Audie Omotosho received a 32-yard touchdown pass with 39 seconds left in the half.

Allen garnered a comfortable lead through a series of impressive plays led by Jonke, ending the third quarter with a 45-17 lead.

Plano East, returning to the field after the interval, made an instant mark as junior Mikail Simmons held onto a 5-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Miklo Smalls.

However, any hopes of a comeback were shattered as Allen senior Lionell McConnell latched onto an 63-yard pass from senior quarterback Seth Green.

“I thought we were starting to get the momentum back and we would keep it going on,” senior Corey Hubbard said. “We fought hard.”

Allen put the game to bed with five minutes and 43 seconds to play as Green ran 7 yards for the final touchdown of the game.

Plano East heads into the Division l playoffs against Denton Ryan on Nov. 13 at the Denton’s C.H. Collins Complex.

“If we get our minds right, we can actually beat them and make it to the next stage,” Jimmar said.
